T21-4 Implementation

This week we are going to create a digital story using one of the many methods available, preferably one that you have not used before. Your story need not be long - a few minutes will be fine. It can be an original story or one that you adapt from another source but you do have to find pictures to use, so this requirement may influence your choice. Of course, it would also be good to choose a story that you could use in the classroom, but that is up to you.

Here are some options

1. Photostory - integrating photos and narration. (Windows only) Here is a YouTube tutorial to show you how. This tutorial refers to the need for Windows Media Player 10 or later but this is only relevant if you are using Windows XP. Vista and Windows 7 will alredy have the required version of Windows Media Player.
2. Video with iMovie or Windows Movie Maker.
3. An audio podcast episode. On a Mac, Garageband is the favourite application for podcasts and would have been pre-installed on your Mac. For Windows, Audacity is very popular. Audacity is a free download. There are many tutorials for both of these options freely available on the web. Audacity is also available for MacOS.
4. A Bitstrip story. Bitstrips.com is an interactive website that enables users to create comic-style stories and easily make your own characters, even if you are not good at sketching. The user agreement limits its use to those aged 14 or older. Bitstrips for Schools offers the same kind of fun in a protected environment. For this assignment you can use the 30 day free trial but an account to use for your class is quite inexpensive.

Sharing your digital story
The sharing method depends on the format of your digital story. If you chose option 1, 2 or 3, you may be able to upload it directly to your blog. Alternatively, you could upload it to Youtube or Teachertube. In either case you would need to create a free account. For an audio podcast you could create an account at Podbean (or anyother podcast host that you are familiar with) and upload it there. If you choose option 5, you can right click the comic, save the image as a PNG then attach the image to a forum post.
