Gamification
Explain the term gamification and give a few examples of the use of elements of gamification in a classroom. For your examples, try to choose some that you have used in your class or that you could use in your class.Games in the Classroom
Some of the earliest uses of computers in the classroom involved the use of games on devices like the Apple II, the Commodore 64 and the TRS 80. These games were good for drill type activities such as spelling and arithmetic and similar games are still used widely. For our discussion, we will refer to this kind of game as Level 1 games.
Later, games became more sophisticated and these made it possible to moves games up a few levels on Bloom's taxonomy. Who's for Dinner? is a good example that can reinforce concepts of food chains. For our discussion we will call these Level 2 games.Now there are many people using more open ended games in the classroom and even choosing games that students play at home and integrating them into class activities. Minecraft is a popular example. MineCraft Edu is one way that teachers are using MineCraft in the classroom. Others have used Second Life as a way to engage students. Foir this discussion we will call these Level 3 games.
Explain your position regarding the use of games for learning in a Christian classroom. Be sure to refer to the pro and con arguments you encountered in your reading this week as well as including opinions formed from your own experience. How you respond to Jane McGonigal's vision for using games?
